Calculate GST amount, CGST, SGST, and total price instantly — add or remove GST from any amount for all GST slabs.
The GST Calculator is one of the most essential tools for every business owner, freelancer, shopkeeper, and consumer in India. Since GST (Goods and Services Tax) was introduced in July 2017, it has replaced multiple indirect taxes including VAT, service tax, and excise duty. Understanding how GST is applied to a transaction — and how to split it into CGST and SGST components — is critical for correct billing, accounting, and tax compliance.
This calculator handles two common GST scenarios. The first is adding GST to a base price (exclusive GST): you know the pre-tax price of a product or service and want to find the final price after adding GST. The second is removing GST from an inclusive price: you have the final MRP or total price and want to work backward to find the original base price and the GST component.
GST Rate Slabs in India
India uses a multi-tiered GST structure with five main slabs: 0% (essential goods like milk, vegetables, books), 5% (packaged food, household necessities), 12% (processed food, computers), 18% (most services and manufactured goods), and 28% (luxury items like luxury cars, tobacco, aerated drinks). A few items attract special rates like 3% (gold, silver) and 0.25% (rough diamonds).
CGST and SGST Split
For intra-state transactions (supplier and buyer in the same state), GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST, collected by the Centre) and SGST (State GST, collected by the state). For example, on an 18% GST transaction, 9% goes to the Centre as CGST and 9% goes to the state as SGST. For inter-state transactions, IGST (Integrated GST) applies at the full rate.
Who Uses This Calculator?
Small business owners verifying invoices. Freelancers charging clients for services. E-commerce sellers computing product pricing. Consumers checking if they were billed correctly. Accountants and finance teams processing GST returns.
1. Enter the Amount: Type the price of the product or service. This can be either the base price (before GST) or the total price (including GST) depending on your calculation type.
2. Select GST Rate: Choose the applicable GST rate slab — 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, or enter a custom rate for special categories.
3. Choose Calculation Type: Select "Add GST" if your amount is the pre-tax base price. Select "Remove GST" if your amount already includes GST and you want to find the original base price.
4. View Results: The calculator instantly shows the GST amount, the CGST and SGST split (for intra-state transactions), and the total amount.
Adding GST (Exclusive): GST Amount = Base Price × (GST Rate / 100). Total Price = Base Price + GST Amount.
Removing GST (Inclusive): Base Price = Total Price × 100 / (100 + GST Rate). GST Amount = Total Price − Base Price.
CGST = SGST = GST Amount / 2 (for intra-state transactions).
Example: Base price ₹1,000 at 18% GST → GST = ₹180, Total = ₹1,180, CGST = ₹90, SGST = ₹90.
Reverse: Total ₹1,180 at 18% GST → Base = ₹1,180 × 100/118 = ₹1,000, GST = ₹180.
Example 1 — Add GST: A freelancer charges ₹50,000 for a design project. At 18% GST → GST = ₹9,000, Total invoice = ₹59,000. CGST = ₹4,500, SGST = ₹4,500.
Example 2 — Remove GST: A retailer sees an MRP of ₹2,360 on a product with 18% GST. Base price = ₹2,360 × 100/118 = ₹2,000. GST = ₹360.
Example 3 — 5% GST: Restaurant bill of ₹1,000 at 5% GST → GST = ₹50, Total = ₹1,050. CGST = ₹25, SGST = ₹25.
